Fannie hates me. But that’s OK.
I trapped Fannie and her two kittens about a month ago. The kittens are both females (Daisy & Daffodil), so this was a feral family of females who would spend the rest of their lives reproducing continuously and struggling to survive. The kittens moved to our bathroom and have tamed COMPLETELY. (A video of them is coming up in this post.) Mom Fannnie, however, isn’t going to be one that will tame. I had her spayed and with my numbers high (and no adoptions in sight), I wrestled with whether or not to release her. But I couldn’t. As I’ve said before, the only couple of times I’ve released spayed/neutered feral cats is when they were injuring themselves trying to escape. AND they were released in places where there was a managed colony; therefore they would have access to food. When I enter the room, Fannie climbs straight up the inside of her enclosure (moved her to the enclosure in the cathouse), but she doesn’t become so blindly terrified that she slams into walls or beats her forehead against the wire. She hates me. And she wants to stay far far away from me. Not ideal. But there is no place to release her where I can know she is being fed. It appears that she is doing fine in her enclosure whenever I’m NOT in the cathouse. The main thing is that she will never struggle to survive again. She can live here at Winnie’s Wish (mostly sanctuary now) and be safe from the elements and spared a life of starvation. I already have cats here whom I cannot touch. Fannie can join the ranks.
Her kittens, on the other hand, have turned into the sweetest two little darlings anywhere. They are SO precious – little lovers who want attention. Their signature characteristic is face-pushing. You know what I’m talking about. As you reach to pet them, they push their little faces into your hand over and over. They also happen to be loud purr-ers. Ah, what a sound. These are two sweethearts who are ready for a home. I know they will initially regress in a new home, but watching the video of them will assure anybody of their ability to adjust and of their “sweet-ness.” Spread the word, my Friends. These two need to be adopted into their forever home while they’re still kittens.
See you tomorrow for a Wildlife Wednesday.
They are both so pretty.. I am sure they will be adopted very soon. Since one of my cats died I thought I would take a cat room cat out and put it in the house. To my dismay- Anna Belle Lea ran back into the cat house scared to death of being out. Strange. Have you ever had that to happen? The cat enclosure look perfect for Fannie. It looks like it gives her a feeling of security. Fog here today. Chrystal how are you going to handle all your out side pets during the eclipse? Give us all a thought on it.

I had feral mother cat spayed and was going to release her after she was well from her surgery, because would have still fed her, but she decided she did not want to go outside and she rubs up against my legs, but if I reach down to pet her she backs away and hisses at me. Hoping she will come around in time and she talks to me all the time, wish I knew what she was trying to tell me.Hope the kittens get adopted soon.
