You know that I now consider Winnie’s Wish to be both a shelter and a sanctuary. A shelter for those who only need to stay here until they are ready to be adopted into forever homes of their own. And a sanctuary for those who might need to live their entire lives here. I have lots and lots of sanctuary cats. And I know it’s possible that some of these might one day be adoptable. To go from extremely feral to living comfortably in the cathouse to becoming adoptable is a long road. Several Wishers have reached the second stage of comfort and contentment here but will never go on to homes of their own. I’m happy that they seem happy. That is enough for me. BUT there are others here who (in the right patient and loving home) will be happier in that home than they can be here. What is troublesome is that sometimes cats go through the first three stages – feral, cathouse happy, adoptable – and then into a FOURTH stage – institutionalized. For instance, there was a time when Smokey could have gone into a very patient home and eventually become happy there. Slate is another one like that. Kizzie and Bunny also fall into this category. But now they have lived in the cathouse for SO long that it is questionable whether or not they will be able to make the adjustment into actual homes.
THIS is what I fear will happen to Betty Lou and her three boys – Bojangles, Binks, and Boy Blue. Betty Lou and Bojangles are so so so ready for homes of their own right this minute. Both crave way more human attention than they can get here. This is the perfect time for these two sweethearts to be chosen and start living the BEST stage of all – The Good Life. Blue is shyer and Binks the shyest of all. But as I’ve always wished – if someone would adopt Betty Lou and Binks together OR Bojangles and Blue together, they’d get one immediate lap cat and one that would require some time and patience. What a gift to get (and give)! I desperately wish Betty Lou, Bojangles, Binks, and Boy Blue would be chosen really really soon. Betty Lou and Binks; Bo and Blue. Or Betty Lou to her own home; all three boys together to a wonderful understanding home. Getting two adopted together is a possibility. It has happened here many times. Getting three adopted to the same home is also a possibility. There are homes out there with THREE Wishers living in them.
Winnie’s Wish has more than a handful of adoptable kitties right now. But with the exception of Betty Lou and Bo, they will all require patience to one day become beloved family members. At this moment in time, I am wishing with all my heart that Betty Lou and Bojangles and Binks and Boy Blue will all be CHOSEN for adoption into patient, loving, forever homes. Wish with me, Friends.
Now take a look at some new video of these great cats. Sometimes the perfect video gets a Wisher into a home!
See you tomorrow.
I don't believe that any cat is permanently institutionalized. Though it may seem as if some are bound to the cat-house forever, I can't think that is so. I look at it this way. If a cat has been raised in one home for a long time, and something happens there - the owner dies, or there is a new family member and the cat is evicted - the little animal needs a new home. In this case, it is a necessity, and yet, if given love and patience, he comes to know his new surroundings as home. We have a few like that in the rescue group I work with. One in particular was adopted after about ten years in a sanctuary. He was happy there but it was crowded. Now he is with just two other cats and is enjoying himself immensely. I think almost any cat will adjust, if given time and affection.

When I think about institutionalized kitties, I think about Traci Mae, her whole life in shelters, adopted as a senior and living the good life, happy as a clam! We can wish and hope and pray for that for all of these kitties! Well, not the whole life in shelter part ok? :) But lets work hard to get homes for this group, and the rest! There are people out there for them!!!

Don't forget another great way to help Winnie's Wish is to donate, or use the Wish List, or check out the auction! Thank you!!!

Prayers for all these kitties to be adopted. All are so deserving of having their own human family. However that being said they are so much better off than in their former lives - maybe that is why they seem content. Happiness is in degrees. Cats sleep much of the time no matter what home they are in. Out side cats are prone to all kind of sickness and night creatures - cold and weather. Chrystal do not feel bad for the ones living in Winnies wish. They never had it so good. When you least expect something good is going to happen. Soon!

Wishing and hoping and definitely SHARING so that these wonderful kitties will find their furever home and start living The Good Life!! However, remember Chrystal, all of the kitties in your care are definitely already living the good life. They are the lucky ones!
