I have been sharing some “Where Are They Now” type posts about some of the Wishers who are out there living The Good Life! My goal is to have information available at the click of a picture for people who might be considering the adoption of a Winnie’s Wish cat. These stories will hopefully be testament to the fact that even though a Wisher might be halfway across the country from the adopter, those adopters say it was absolutely worth it to go the extra mile. And for those Wishers who required a little more patience, their families tell me it was worth it beyond a doubt. Today’s story is from someone we all know – Mindy Slimmer. She and her mom (CJ) adopted a Winnie’s Wisher and then came back for more. Now here’s Mindy with Luna’s story.
It was WORTH IT…The Slimmer Girls on Getting Luna Lovegood
Back on December 28th, 2011, we, the Slimmer girls, went on a trek out to Mountain Grove, MO to get our Luna Lovegood and make her a “graduate” of Winnie’s Wish cat rescue. We had read on Chrystal’s blog about Luna and her special dietary needs. What was interesting is that it felt like Luna should be ours since we already had a much older kitty female, Sock Lucyfur, who had the same dietary issues and have been thinking about getting her a companion.
Shortly before getting Luna, we worked on my father to get our Luna. He said, “No more cats or dogs. PERIOD.” Well, within the month, he broke his own ultimatum when he rescued my sister’s cat, Jack Flash Slimmer, and became Jack’s official best buddy. Mom and I had dad where we wanted him. We e-mailed Chrystal as soon as we got the green light and Luna came home on that lovely December day where, both us and Chrystal, got lost at least once on the half-way trip between us and her rescue. Once we met, it was like meeting a kindred spirit for mom and me. We exchanged Luna from Chrystal’s cat carrier to our own cat carrier and left to return home.
So…dad got his kitty, mama and I got our kitty and Luna has been a talkative, spoiled kitty ever since. Her many nicknames include: Luna B. Tuna, Luna Lovegood, and Luna Luv-Luvs, and when she is naughty, LADY. Luna’s best friend at the house is Jack Flash. Her favorite treat is Greenies Sensitive Stomach Salmon flavored treats. She would rather have those treats than eat her own kibble. If mom and I had to do it all over again, we would only change one thing…we would have traveled ALL THE WAY to Winnie’s Wish to get our Luna. And…we would later visit Winnie’s Wish actual campus at a later time in the spring of 2012 for a pair of Winnie’s Wishers. That story will be for another time.
JT - THANK YOU for choosing Winnie's Wish on Giving Tuesday.
Prudi - THANK YOU for choosing Winnie's Wish on Giving Tuesday.
See you tomorrow for some videos that I'm HOPING will sail Nisha and Yardley right into their very own perfect forever home.
Thanks for the story of Luna and Jack Flash. I love stories where the end result is one big happy family. Furries and humans living in harmony. Sun is out here today and that is good for all the out side furries. Have a warm loving furry day.

Looks like Luna hit the jackpot with the Slimmer girls! What a pretty kitty kat! I remember this story well. Thanks to Mindy & her mom for adopting Luna...and two more...wink! wink! Looking forward to reading the rest of their story down the road!
How wonderful that you were a lucky recipient of Giving Tuesday! You & Winnie's Wish are most certainly deserving of it!
