I have Zen. Nope – not the wonderful peaceful state that comes with accepting things as they are. I have Zen, the cat. Do you remember her story? If not, you can read it here.
Zen, who came to me only a little over a month ago, is ready for a home. And I don’t just mean ready. I mean READY! I absolutely cannot remember another cat who was SO adoptable SO quickly here at Winnie’s Wish. This cat is completely tame. She is friendly and sweet. But it gets even better than that. She WANTS to be picked up and held. She gives little nose bumps, head bonks, and hugs. She is amazing. And she is going to make an INSTANT companion for some lucky human out there.
When I first started discovering that Zen was so so so people-friendly, I was ecstatic. I realized that this was a gal who would not have to live here for months or even a year or two while she slowly decided that humans are OK. As I carried her around, her front legs around my neck in a hug, I knew I could post about her that there is really NO home that she couldn’t go directly into. I thought about how this was the ULTIMATE in easy cat adoptions.
But have you ever known Life to be 100% perfect?
Zen has a “flaw.” She does NOT like other cats.
She started displaying this dislike for other cats while she was still in the kennel cat rooms. I didn’t want those cats to stress too badly (that’s one of the areas where my “more sensitive” types live). I moved her into the first cathouse room, in a cage, to begin to adjust. She hissed everybody away, but that is not necessarily unusual when a cat first moves into a new environment. However, she is now living OUT of her cage and freely in the “blue room.” This was home to Sienna (recently adopted), Snowflake, Slate, and Finnick. Zen hisses them ALL away. She is annoyed and irritated by their presence. Snowflake is not fond of Zen and does her own hissing back. But the boys, Slate and Finnick, have tried and tried to make friends with Zen. She will have nothing of it. She seems to have no idea that this feline species happens to be her own.
I’ve had this happen a few other times over the years. I recently did Tulip’s “It Was Worth It” post. She was definitely a cat who didn’t want cat family members.” Luckily, the family who adopted Tulip was a one-cat-at-a-time family. And Tulip is very happy there. I’m afraid we might need the same situation for Zen. The really sad thing is this. She is ready right this minute for a home. She is one of the greatest cats I’ve ever met as far as her love for people. But her home may need to be a special one – one without other cats. You all know how hard it is for me to find wonderful forever homes as it is. Now here is a perfect, loving cat who will require zero adjustment period in a new home. And good grief - she has to have a special placement. Oh, well. I choose to believe that there is someone out there somewhere who is looking for ONE feline companion. It happened for Tulip. Please pray that it will happen for Zen.
See you tomorrow for a special Friday post.
Oh my gosh! Look at her! What a cuddle bug! How sweet!!!
Surely it can't be that hard to find a home with no other kitties?? Someone has to know someone who needs one kitty in their life! Friends, please think about everyone you know, do you know someone who lost a cat companion and is ready for just one again? Do you know someone who is suddenly ready for a single kitty, for instance, just moved to where they can have a pet? Do you know a single or retired person who could use a furry friend? Please consider everyone you know in light of giving Zen (or even another kitty here) a chance at a forever home!
Don't forget donations and wish list! And Tomorrow's big announcement! (If Chrystal's internet comes back and stays on, yikes! She only had internet long enough to post this!)

Beautiful Zen! Certainly it's a matter of timing...I know if she had been available when I was looking this spring, I might have been checking cross-country flights to come get her. But my own 'solo-baby' is now happily ensconced here and I think she shares Zen's view of the feline species. The perfect person will find Zen soon - I just know it!

How is she with dogs? Many families want a dog and a cat! I had a cat that LOVED dogs and thought that cats could all just GO AWAY! :) If she does well, then that opens many doors.
