I feel this way every year. On September 1st it suddenly hits me that Summer is on its way out. In fact, just the word “September” makes me think about Fall. I know Fall does not officially arrive for about another three weeks. And in Southern Illinois, the temperatures in September don’t change much from the temperatures of Summer. But it still feels like Fall has arrived when I enter the month of September. I was able to get a few pictures that do suggest a bit of Fall.
So - here is the thing I associate with Fall . . . ADOPTIONS. I’ve never looked back to see when exactly the majority of Winnie’s Wish adoptions have occurred. Maybe I’ve had just as many during the Spring and Summer months as during the Fall and Winter. But I do think of Fall as a time when folks begin to move back indoors. There’s a whole lotta outdoor livin’ in the Summer. The Fall ushers in a time of year when we spend more time inside. And I always hope that means people start thinking that it’s the perfect time to add a furry family member.
Also – Kitten Season is still ON. And invariably, I end up having homeless cats and kittens “cross my path” in the Fall. At this point in time, I am back to a maximum number of Wishers. This is because I’ve been taking cats and kittens IN without any going OUT (except for little Violet). Even with the new addition and the extra room it affords, I MUST get some current Wishers into homes before I can take in any future homeless, needy felines.
Throughout this month of September, I will be highlighting the cats and kittens here who are ready for homes. Dear, dear Friends – if you are at all willing, please share these posts. I believe that most of the time, Wishers end up with exactly who they are supposed to end up with. You just never know when that wonderful perfect person is going to see his/her cat – the cat who is meant to be with that person.
I have some wonderful cats who will make amazing companions. I also have some “more difficult” cases, but I know there are people out there who would take on the challenge and give one of these Wishers a chance at a forever home. I also know that I can’t save ANY MORE cats or kittens until I have some adoptions.
Some people would ask – Why adopt from Winnie’s Wish as opposed to from my local paper or local shelter? Why not adopt closer to home? And my answer is – Because Wishers get to live really well while they’re here waiting on a permanent home. They have a home-like environment in the (now three-room) cathouse. And the only way more homeless cats or kittens can begin to live like this is if the current Wishers can move out . . . into their very own homes. So if you adopt a Wisher, there is a spot for another homeless cat or kitten who then gets to live in a really nice temporary world until the perfect home comes along for that one. PLEASE consider adopting a Wisher!
Tomorrow, another story of a Wisher who is now living The Good Life and why that adopter says “It Was Worth It.”
See you then.
The pictures are so fall like with all the reds -golds and shades of brown. You are right about kitten season. I now have a sweet black furry setting on my deck rail. I will try and trap he or she for shots and a fixing. Its a keeper. I am fresh out of black cat here in Fur a way land. My three died of old age in the last year. If you come to this big town pick up a lone oak friendly news paper. A freebee. There was a heart breaking story about 13 dogs put to sleep on the orders of our County Judge Executive just because they were not the most adoptable of dogs - not bad dogs - This is a no kill shelter. He is a complete power mad man and should never have over stepped his bounds. Dogs are Gods gift to us to be our loving companions. To be treasured. I cried most of the day after I read the article. Please people -look on this side bar and step up and adopt a sweet furry.

Is that sweet ADOPTABLE Dora in the first picture? Talk about a kitty who needs a home! Please, friends, do not let this little kitten grow up in the cat house! Let her grow up in a home with people of her own! Share! Spread the word! Find this baby, and other Wishers, a home now!!
Don't forget that with a full house, there's a great need for resources! Donate, buy the book, fulfill a wish list item! Thank you all!!

I like September very much, that month when the heat of summer fades into a gentler warmth, and there is a freshness to the air that comes with an intimation of cold. The leaves start to change colour but don't yet fall. I like that third picture of yours especially.
Summer is a slow adoption time here, too, so we're hoping in the rescue-group to which I belong that things pick up now.

I meant the fourth picture... An idyllic landscape - except for the power poles.

Well...if it isn't little aDORAble! What a darling picture of her with the apple! She is certainly turning into a beauty!
Fall...my absolute favorite time of year! So many wonderful Winnie's Wish kitties looking for homes. Fingers are crossed for some much needed adoptions!

I sure hope some "fall" for the Wishers. To make you feel better about September 1, I love it that the KFVS weather folks say meteorological fall is Sept-Oct-Nov. They don't fool with the equinox.
