It’s February. Spring rolls in next month! So between this being the month of Love and next month ushering in Spring (otherwise known as the beginning of Kitten Season), February is the PERFECT month to hope for some adoptions. I will highlight several Wishers throughout the rest of this month. Friends, please share these posts. I am at the maximum number of cats that Winnie’s Wish can have. If you are considering adoption, PLEASE consider a Wisher. There is a nice variety here. Somebody here is perfect FOR YOU!
I’ve never said much about Smokey on this blog. The poor guy . . . there was never a lot to say. He’s a quiet cat, never causes any trouble. He came as one of four siblings. The group was too old when taken in so their feral ways had already taken hold. The litter included three boys – Smokey, Toast, and Slate, and one girl – Snowflake. Only one of these four is a cat I would say will be “easy” to transition into a new home. Toast is very tame. Snowflake, Slate, and Smokey will require longer adjustment periods. These are three cats who are not for just anybody. Each of these will need a patient home.
The reason I’m highlighting Smokey today is because I need to get him into a home NOW. I’ve written on this blog about my problems keeping some of the more aggressive cats from intimidating some of the more timid ones. I have the cats separated as much as is possible here under the current circumstances. This is one of the reasons being able to build an additional room would be SO NICE! Until then, I have had to move Peter Pan and Tinkerbell into the kennel cat rooms because Peter Pan was being bullied so severely that he had stopped eating and drinking. Sallie has also moved back into those rooms because she was stress licking to the point of thinning her fur. There is simply NO PLACE to move poor Smokey. And he is definitely being bullied.
The culprit is Finnick. Finnick is one of the two most feral cats living at Winnie’s Wish. He is over-the-top bonded to Slate and is exceptionally happy just living his life alongside his friend in the cathouse. HOWEVER. He started bullying Smokey close to a month ago. Now - Smokey is a nice BIG cat. Finnick is a bit smaller and much younger. But he has his bluff in on poor Smokey. Smokey has just been going along living his life in the cathouse. He is kind of a loner. No real friends. But he had never seemed noticeably unhappy. Until now. The poor thing is staying on high shelves and out on the enclosed cat deck. When I am in the cathouse, he comes to where I am for a few pets, but he is always scanning. As soon as he sees Finnick he runs for cover. No way for a beautiful boy like Smokey to have to live.
Smokey is a great cat. But he is not one of my “easier” ones. He wants me to pet him, but he doesn’t enjoy being held (yet). However, he has come a LONG way from how he started. Smokey needs a home where he will be loved for who he is. He needs patience. He needs love. I’ve never seen him bully another cat so I’m guessing he would do fine in a home that already has cats. I know there are very few people who are willing to take a cat who might need a longer period of time to bond with. But Smokey deserves a home. And he REALLY needs to be able to move out of the cathouse and into the The Good Life. I know there has to be someone out there willing to give sweet Smokey a chance.
And Friends – REMEMBER: If you adopt Smokey, you save TWO cats – Smokey, and the homeless kitty you open a spot for. Please SHARE.
See you tomorrow.

Smokey is so beautiful. He would learn to love anyone who adopts him and makes him the only cat in the house. He would be so easy to love. Look at that face and those eyes. Some where out there is a patient soul. Step up dear heart and contact Chrystal to talk about taking Smokey in to your heart and home.
