I hope you read all the way through today’s and tomorrow’s posts. I’d like to think that with your help, we might place at least one senior Winnie’s Wish kitty into a home of his or her very own.
I read an article that defined a cat as a senior once he or she reached six years of age. Obviously, for a cat, age six isn’t even halfway through a lifespan. But I started thinking – when it’s a shelter cat, the age of six (and beyond) does seem to be an adoption deterrent. There are FOUR senior cats in the Winnie’s Wish cathouse. Two are pretty happy where they are. Two others, however, need a home SO badly. Please read and share. These seniors need your help.
Let’s start with two Winnie’s Wishers who happen to be sisters. I’ve talked about them before. Tibby Bean and Circe were two of four feral kittens that my family and I took in six years ago – before I had a cathouse. We took their mother, too. Mom and two kittens were adopted. Tibby Bean and Circe were not. Tibs turned out to be a real handful. As she became an adult, we discovered that she was quite a grouchy one and preferred to be left alone. Circe was so shy that I feared she would never be adoptable either. Circe, however, DID come around. Unfortunately, when she was finally adopted, she went to a home for a year and was then returned. The marriage broke up and all four Winnie’s Wish kitties who had been in that home came back to the cathouse. When she returned, there was some recuperating to do. And now, I’m happy to say, she is 100% back. Healthy and happy again.
Tibby, besides still being grouchy to other cats, has actually grown to enjoy my attention. However, she is a biter. Many of you understand this – she is one of those cats who gives “love nibbles.” I understand this and it’s fine with me. But if she was to ever be chosen for adoption, the humans would need to know that Tibs is a cat with issues. She gives me affection but it is definitely out of the “normal” range of loving behaviors. She is also the one with the chronically running eye. My vets cannot find anything wrong and believe this is just something she will always deal with.
Now here’s the deal. I am with the cats in the cathouse so much that I have a feel for who needs what. Some are SO needy. Some are desperate for attention. Some are too shy to ask but are really happy to receive affection. Some are settled and quite content in the cathouse. Some are still too introverted to be adoptable at this point. I truly believe that Tibs could live her life in the cathouse and be OK. BUT – I also believe that in the right home, she could receive more of what she needs. Circe seemed incredibly glad to be back in the cathouse after her year-long stay in a home. But I believe Circe would absolutely LOVE to have the attention of a human of her very own. She truly enjoys affection and asks me for it with her eyes EVERY day when I’m in the cathouse. Who knows? There might be a PERFECT home for one (or both) of these two senior sisters.
Before I close today, let me share with you TWO wonderful packages that arrived here for Winnie’s Wish. It’s like somebody (two somebodies) threw open the floodgates and the gifts poured in.
Maria – THANK YOU.
Sandy – THANK YOU.
PLEASE tune in tomorrow. I need you more than you know for the next two seniors.

Paws crossed here too!! We have two seniors here and understand completely. Audrey has been doing wonderfully here. She is SUCH a love bug!! While she still has an arch-nemesis in Stormy (aka Mister Knives). She loves everyone else and has even been seen exchanging grooming with the other cats!!

Seniors are beautiful. I have taken in several seniors and most are still here at 12 to 17. Where I used to live it was a kill shelter. I took three or four on their last days. Yesterday after 15 years of love I had to take Big Face the lap Cat a solid black 15 year old and put him out of his pain. Nothing else could be done for him and yet he lingered on until he lost blood for days and it was time. I held him and kissed him on his now small face and cried for him as he gave up his sweet soul. I am still crying but he is in a better place and I told him I would see him on the other side and he left me. Never be afraid to take an older cat. I would never trade his loyal years of love for us for a million dollars. Adopt a senior today and know love. Ginny & The Fur Family -Pray for the soul of Big Face the lap Cat.

It just does not seem fair to call a cat a senior at 6! That's like maybe starting middle age, lol, not that old at all! My cat age chart says 6 is like 40 in human, and that is NOT senior! My Star is going to be 15 soon and yes, she's a senior, but she's also as active and crazy as a kitten at least a few times a day! She's got lots of love to give, and so certainly do 6 year olds! Please help find the right homes for these little sweethearts!

I don't recall seeing pictures of Tibby Bean before, she's gorgeous, look at those eyes!
Ginny, we're so sorry for your loss, our hearts go out to you, sending hugs and purrs and prayers

We love, and always seem to adopt senior kitties. We are purring and praying for Circe and Tibs to find those homes where they will blossom and thrive.
That was so nice of Maria and Sandy. We know how much those supplies help!
Big hugs, dear friend!
