Does anybody out there happen to remember the outpouring of support I received when I added the second room on to my cathouse? The money came pouring in and ended up covering a third of the cost! It was amazing. The second room is bigger than the original one-room cathouse. So with that building project, I more than doubled my space. Having you guys reach out to me and help us build that space for homeless kitties was one of the greatest experiences I've had as a rescuer. And of course, I've gone from being able to house 7 or 8 cats to being able to house up to 18! You might remember that I had pictures on the blog all throughout the building process. I invited you to come along as my husband and my dad built that addition. It was so much fun to show you the progress as it was occurring in real time.
I wanted to bring you along on another (very recent) journey. But I know you guys too well. If I had told you about my plan before I started into it, you would have wanted to help again financially. I've been SO blessed with your help over the last three years. I had a financial game plan for this project, and I knew that even if I said that to you, you would try to help anyway. So I did it on the sly. It's over. It's complete. It's paid for. And now for The Reveal . . .
I HAVE MY KITTEN ROOM. Husband and I used our tax refund to add a very small (8 X 8) room onto the kennel. The room is just off my office. There is room for three cat cages, leaving a small area of floor space for kitten play. Husband and I just finished the room at the end of last week. We started the project on March 31 – three weeks of working nonstop. One of the windows had to be ordered and it's not in yet, and my mom and dad are refinishing an antique door that my cousin gave me. When those two things are in place, the room will be 100% complete. However, I absolutely COULD NOT WAIT to move my current three foster families into that room. Before the weekend was over, I had the moms and babies moved out of my storage room. The new room will act as a maternity ward or nursery or quarantine or whatever is needed at any particular point in time. Right now it's a kitten paradise. And yes! I plopped right down in the floor and let kittens spill out all over me. So _ Much _ Fun!
So there it is. I have a two-room cathouse and now a maternity ward-slash-nursery-slash-playroom-slash-socialization room. I would say that it just doesn't get much better than this. But of course, it does . . .
See you tomorrow.
Wonderful. You give these precious babies the best start in life and the best chance of a forever home ~ thank you.

OMC - that is so awesome....they are going to love having that space to run around. Maybe put some cat shelves up on the walls for some "mom alone time". :)

Terrific idea! So glad you were able to realize this dream. I like the idea mentioned in an earlier comment about shelves on the walls for mama's

Hi Chrystal!
I'm so happy for you and the kittens and mama cats to finally have this space. Bless you for using your return for GOOD!! But...we may not have helped you buy that building, but you KNOW we will help you in other ways. You brat! lol! Of course we would have loved to have helped and watched the work progress and everything! But wow! What a great idea, what a great room! You could sell tickets for an hour in the kitten room and make a mint! Kitten therapy! lol! Chrystal, this is awesome!
Ok, the mommas and their babies are taken care of. Guess who needs our help?? You know it! The cathouse cats need to find their forever homes!
Let's play a game. Pick a kitty in the side bar, then think of everyone you know and decide who would be the best home for them! Then share that news with your friend. Then pick another kitty and Start over again! If all of us would do that with at least a kitty or two a day, then some of these people could become adopters! What a good way to find homes, no? So please play Pick A Kitty!
Yes, the room is up without help, but that doesn't mean there are no needs. Please consider donating to help out. Have a shelf you're not using? That was a great idea in the comments above. If you have one that's not in use, think about the room.
Hey that room needs a name! Can't call it maternity, kitten, quarantine, etc room. Hey Chrystal, how about a name the room auction! A couple dollars a 'ticket' and the winner names the room? Just a thought!

The Fur Family love the new Maternity ward. There are so many sweet little faces... This is the best use of a tax refund I have ever seen.. love the ladder with the little resting places for the kittens and the cat hiding house for sleeping and playing house... Andrea is right again - this place needs a name.. so when you speak of it we will all know right where you mean... Glimmer looks so happy to at last have some down time alone. Girls just want to have fun - furry fun time is best... I am over come with joy when I look at the nice place the kittens have to live - it is like a half way house until they go on to forever homes...Ginny & The Fur Family

Sneaky! Both building the new room, and playing kittie toy to all those kittehs. Sneaky, indeed.
enjoy.
