This story really touched me. For one thing, it is a great story. I encourage you to click on the link and read about Winifred. You might notice something while you’re reading. Winifred is often called “Winnie”. Of course, our own Wintergreen became “Winnie” and it is her name on the very Walkway that now holds Winifred’s brick.
There is one other little something I want to mention before I send you to Winifred’s link. When I was taking the pictures of the bricks, I had them all out of the boxes and spread out here and there. All of the recent kitten additions (Mickey, Maverick, Sunshine, Juice, and Hershey) had been romping around all over the place the whole time I was busy with bricks and camera. I was a little surprised that the kittens weren’t the least bit interested in what I was doing. When all of the pictures were taken, and most of the bricks were packed back into their places (to await a cooler day for actual placement in the Walkway), I was called away briefly with only a handful of bricks still out. When I returned, this is what I found.
Yep. Little Mickey Mouse had curled up next to Winifred’s brick. Did you happen to notice what Winifred’s brick says? “Mama Cat to All” I guess little Mickey instinctively knew. And here was Winifred reaching back into Life to “mother” one last time.
I hope you will take a moment to read about Winifred (“Winnie”) over at the blog Hubble Space Paws. Click here - Winifred
Lisa ~ THANK YOU.
LOVE that picture. I think every house needs their own Winnie....she sounds like a wonderful girl.

I read Winifred's story for the second time and it is just as touching and lovely as when I left a comment in November 2010 :-)

I went over to Space Paws and read all about Winifred or Winnie - a sweet beautiful kittie- Her brick is just right - she was a mother to them all. I too love Black Kitties. The Poem on letting one go made me tear up and as I read it I understood what the unknown author was trying to tell us. Letting one go is the hardest decision a pet owner will have to make. Some times it is the only humane thing to do for a beloved pet. I look around at my ancients and hope I can find the great courage she had -to be able to let mine go. Because it is the right thing to do out of deep love and wanting to not let them suffer - Thanks for telling Winefred(Winnie's)story - We here at the Fur Family Hone salute you as a wonderful Mother of furrie ones. Keep up your good work at the Hubble space center and with Space Paws adoptions. Ginny & The Fur Family

Wonderful story! Wonderful kitty! Wonderful brick! Wonderful Winnie too!
There are so many kitties just waiting to give you many many years of love like Winnie gave her human. Why don't you give them a look and see who could be yours? Or someone you knows?
Adopt, donate, buy a book, help in any way you can, please!

Storm last night knocked out our inter net and all phones for over 24 hrs. I hope every one had a safe night and are alright. I read this story again just now and it is already Saturday. Cats are so facinating. All animals are so interesting. prayers for more great loving homes and many more adoptions. Winifred and her story touchs the hearts of so many people. Space Paws is a very fine program and it shows what a caring people with a lot of love in their hearts can accomplish. Buy books and donate what you can to a worth while cause...
