Thank you all for wishing me a happy 2nd blogoversary. Now we get down to work. Today’s post is about bricks. There is a new idea to share, and this is thanks to ML at the Cat Blogosphere. ML’s idea is to have various blogs represented in the Walkway. The Walkway has been dedicated to individual animals for the most part, and that has been absolutely wonderful. ML brought to my attention that since so many people have blogs of their own with cherished pets residing at (and often running) those blogs, it would be nice to see actual blogs represented in the Walkway. So if you would like to have a brick to honor or memorialize a precious pet in your current world or in your past, let me know. And if you would like to join ML with a brick representing your blog, let me know that, too. Obviously, the Walkway exists for two reasons that blend together into one - fundraising and love. Here we go.
There are about 50 bricks in the Walkway. It is just over halfway complete. (Of course, if we should ever need to, we can certainly expand the Walkway. That would be a “burden” I would welcome.)
I have replaced the first two “Bricks” posts with this one as far as what you will see when you click on the Brick pic in the sidebar. Clicking on the picture of that brick (which says “Our Little Winnie . . .”) will now take you to this post. You can still read the first post *(8/5) and the second post *(11/14) by clicking on those dates. That first post explains why I chose the company that I did, etc. But I have transferred all of the important information about ordering a brick into THIS post.
You can order a brick with text only or you can have text and a picture. The brick with text only is $50.00 and the brick with text and picture is $55.00.
You can go to *Polar Engraving yourself and look around. The brick color I’ve chosen is Impressions #9 (beige). It shows up the best on the ground. You can browse through the clip art to see if you would like to add a picture or symbol. There are pictures of cats and pictures of dogs. There are many other pictures and symbols, too. (I used an angel on my sample brick.) To look at clip art: At the website, go to the far right and click on the sixth choice in that column (it has a picture of a butterfly and says Symbols & Clipart). Scroll down to browse through your choices. Some of the categories are Animals, Nature, Religious Symbols, and Miscellaneous. If you want a wider selection of dogs or cats to choose from, scroll all the way down and you will have the option to click on NEXT. That will take you to the page of additional cat and dog choices. These are actually pictures of particular breeds, but you might find something that fits. Or - you might prefer a sunburst (under Special Activities) or a heart (under Miscellaneous), etc.
Here are the steps to order your brick.
1. Email me with your text (and picture if you’re choosing one). Email address is [email protected] Bricks can have one, two, or three lines of text. If you are ordering a text-only brick, each line can have up to 18 characters/spaces. (You can have up to 20, but 18 or less is recommended.) Bricks with text and picture can have up to 15 characters/spaces per line.
2. Make your donation. I have a paypal donate button near the top of the sidebar. Or, you can email me and ask for my home address if you prefer to send a check. Donation for a text-only brick is $50. Donation for a text-and-picture brick is $55.
I will collect orders starting today - March 13 - through Sunday, April 1. Then I will place my order with Polar Engraving. When the bricks arrive here, I will take pictures of them as I did with the first order. I should receive the bricks around the middle of April.
Of course, I will do the stories behind the bricks again for anyone who wants to send me that information. I will put those stories on the blog as they come in throughout April and May (or longer if I get TONS of brick orders - smile).
And now . . . (drumroll) . . . . The Third Installment of the Winnie’s Wish Walkway Brick Fundraiser. Whether you’re getting a brick for a pet still “in the fur”, for a cherished pet who has moved on, or to have your blog represented, remember this. The Walkway is a very permanent means of memorialization. The Walkway is already SO special. You’ve witnessed through the stories just how treasured those animals are. But there is something else that I don’t want you to lose sight of. Once I pay Polar Engraving and Paypal takes their cut, every penny of donation money helps me keep this rescue going. The costs are big - food, kitty litter, vet bills, spays and neuters, travel costs for transports. Your brick order helps SO MUCH.
Now let me leave you with some of the words from Kevin & Tracey's brick post (yesterday):
On the grounds of a small, private cat rescue organization in the middle of Southern Illinois is a brick walkway dedicated to creatures both big and small, and past and present. The memorial is being built by the love and generosity of animal lovers the world over, with inscriptions bearing messages and dedications to many who are loved now and always.
Wow the walkway looks great...fingers crossed for fifty more bricks!!!!

Wow, the walkway is looking great! I can't wait to see it finished! I love thinking that every brick is not only a tribute, but also represents real, tangible help for all the rescue animals that pass through Chrystal's doors.
No one likes to talk about cash, but that's what it takes to help those kitties and doggies. Chrystal's doing the hard, labor intensive part, the cleaning and medicating and chasing and catching and tameing and bottle feeding in the middle of the night and all the myriad other things involved. For me, sending the cash is my way of helping from a distance. It's the easy part, even if scraping up the cash isn't always simple. It's so rewarding because you can actually SEE the change in those kitties from when they come in to when they are ready to be adopted!
Speaking of adopted.... That would also be a HUGE help. Think of everyone you know, who could benefit from some furry love?

We decided on our brick and are mailing it to Chrystal with our doggie story. I am not good with a lot of computer things so I just used old fashioned mail. Andrea said it perfectly. What ever a person can afford, please send it, because it takes so much money for vet bills and meds to bring these little furries back to life. Most are in real bad shape when Chrystal and her family get them. They work wonders with them and try to find loving homes for them so they will have wonderful lives.I love the side walk from Winnies room. Winnie started this off, and I love to think I have honored my dogs there. I hope some good people will see all the pet in the side bar and decide to adopt one or two. Have a good night all.
