2012. Who knows? The Mayan calendar ends this year. Some say that means the end of this world. Others say it means the end of an era. Still others say it’s the end of the world as we know it, and they say this translates into a new way of operating here on planet Earth. I vote for the last one. I’d love to see the world at peace, people accepting other people regardless of their differences, and a brand new way of looking at and treating ANIMALS. I don’t know what 2012 will bring over the next twelve months. But I know what I’m going to report to you during this first week of 2012. Good things. Maybe that’s an omen.
ONE good thing that happened is that the Island Cats (always in my sidebar) had a commentathon last week and lots of comments came in. (The 29th was their 4th blogoversary.) Commenters mentioned many great rescues, but when it was all said and done, OUR rescue and Marg’s Animals got the most comments. So the Island Cats rounded up and split the donation between the two of us. I couldn’t be happier to share this honor with Marg, and I’m just thrilled that we received part of that donation. THANK YOU Island Cats, and thank you to everybody who mentioned our rescue!
The Week Between was PACKED with comings and going. Luna was adopted and now lives with The Slimmer Pugs and their humans and other kitties. Sissy and Sassy are still here. There is a waiting list to adopt little Sassy. Sissy has turned into an absolute joy. Jayden and her piggies are still here. All are healthy little fatties at this point. Zeke, Royce, and Bonnie have moved back to the shelter where we wish them godspeed into loving homes. Wally came and went during the Week Between without benefit of even being introduced to you, but I’ll still tell his story. Another little puppy, DQ, came to us just about the time Wally was leaving. China and Peanut, who came from terrible conditions and in terrible shape, started on their road to recovery. Their stories are heart-warming. We took on another “biter” dog from the shelter to see if Younger Daughter could work her magic. A mom cat with three tiny kittens came into the shelter - the kittens eyes were so full of infection that Older Daughter had to peel them open and squeeze out the infection. They are in our “quarantine room”. And we had such a breakthrough with one particular kitty in the cathouse that she has a brand new status (and it’s probably not somebody you’d guess). So much to get to.
Sissy the Biter Pom has made amazing progress. You can do anything to this dog. Pick her up, carry her around, pick up her baby, stick your hand in her food bowl. She is a little smiling doll who prances and kisses and will make a wonderful addition to someone’s family. Her little hamster baby, Sassy, continues NOT to look like a puppy. It’s hard to say what she really looks like (not a dog). But cute? Oh, my gosh! And there is a waiting list for her at the shelter. She will be adopted as soon as she can be taken from mom pom. I only wish there were waiting lists for the puppies of large dogs. Jayden’s puppies are only a week behind little Sassy. They will need homes, too. But there are no waiting lists for large breed puppies. We will have to hope that these seven will be adopted into loving homes - homes that are willing to bring a “large” dog into the fold. Take a look at these pictures. Sassy is a week older than the piggies. But the piggies have surpassed Sassy in size. The pictures make the post today. Puppies and kittens. CUTE!!!
That's Sassy on the left with one of the piggies on the right.
Here is Mom Sissy with her little baby Sassy.
Here is Jayden (always smiling), mom to the seven little piggies.
And here are the piggies - eyes open. When they were born we thought we had four solid black and three black & white. The solid black ones aren't "solid" black at all. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but we can tell them ALL apart now. The shelter wants names, so we will be naming them this week.
Bonnie finally got old enough to receive her first vaccination. Zeke and Royce have already had the second vac in the series, but Bonnie was in love with her older “brothers” so they stayed in our bathroom with her even though they could have moved on. Once Bonnie was vaccinated, she was “shelter-ready”. The three went together to the shelter yesterday. Now we will pray for fantastic homes.

Now let me leave you with a hint about what I’m going to post tomorrow. It’s a riddle. Ready?
There were four who are no more.
Can you guess it before I post it? See you tomorrow.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, CHRYSTAL! We hope this year will be rich in joy and poor in sorrow. As for the end of the world, it has been predicted so many times that we think it will come when it is good and ready (and no one has predicted it!).
So many sweet ones in your car. We are crossing paws that they wil all find loving homes!

HAPPY NEW YEAR -I LOVE THIS POST -it is full of good cheer - the pom mom and baby are so cute -I can see why there is a waiting list for them - large dogs are great - they make loving house pets and watch dogs. Just what is needed around a home or a farm. My big dog Drew Pooh is an absolute baby and sleeps by my bed and early in the morning he stands up and lays his big head on my chest and licks my chin and tells me it is whizz time to go out. He is completely house broken and if someone comes to the bed room door his low growl will continue until knows who is there and then he will lick them to death - if he knows them - we have never felt safer - please don't be afraid to adopt a large piggie pup or Jayden - you will just have lots more to love. Four who are no more - have the Gray girls been adopted? Or able to go back to the shelter - that hint was not hinty enough - it is a brain teaser - warm wishes on a cold day - Ginny & The Fur Family

Oh, yes, purrs for wonderful homes for them all. :-)
We think that actually the Mayan calendar was established to roll over, roll back to the beginning. It's not the end of the world and we would bet real money that January 1, 2013 won't herald any significant change in human ego and perception. (Aren't we optimistic? LOL.)
But that's 12 months away, and we'd just like 2012 to be a kind and merciful year, one with more laughter than tears.

Oh my goodness... Four, the four grey girls is a possibility, and I hope they have found great homes! Weren't there four adult cats in that group that included Luna who were rescued from one of your daughters friends? It would be great if they found a home! It would be great if any of them found a home! Were there dogs?? Puppies? I'm on pins and needles waiting!!
Hey, while we're waiting, lets see if we can empty the cat house of whoever is left!! Isn't that a great idea??
Happy New Year Chrystal and family!!
