We saw the sun yesterday. It was a strange sight. It’s back again today. It is beautiful.
Today I want to do a special post with a very definite purpose. I want to ask you again for help with an adoption. You’ve already been introduced to this little gal. I have now learned a lot more about her personality. My giant hope today is that there is a family out there willing to open their heart and their home to Daphne.
When we rescued Daphne she had multiple infections - leg, mammary gland, eyes. (Those conditions are all cleared up now!) She has one blind eye. She is also FIV-positive. And that is the problem. There are two reasons why Daphne cannot stay here. My entire rescue operation depends on adoptions. I can only take in so many cats and kittens. I will never allow our situation to become one of overcrowding. For whatever period of time a kitty lives in our cathouse (a few months, a year, a lifetime), I want that life to be quality. So getting kitties adopted out is the only way to make room for future needy kitties to be taken in. Many of you understand that FIV is not a condition that is easily transferred to another cat. It requires a deep flesh wound (a bite), and it is highly unlikely in a home setting where kitties know each other. It happens more readily in the world of strays where cats have to fight for survival. However, because of the fears that still exist about FIV, I have my OWN fear that adoptions might be affected by having an FIV kitty in the cathouse.
The second reason that Daphne cannot stay here has to do with her own protection. I have become a great deal more educated about the FIV-positive condition since Daphne arrived. I learned that most vets recommend that an FIV cat not receive the basic vaccination - the FVRCP. Neither our home nor the cathouse is a stable environment in which the cat population does not grow, fluctuate, and modify. We have new stray cats and kittens in and out of here continuously - it’s what we do. And even though we are very careful to keep new arrivals isolated initially, I cannot put Daphne at risk by having her living in an ever-changing environment.
Daphne needs a home.
Some of you commented when I first told Daphne’s rescue story. Some of you said that you have lived with an FIV-positive kitty in your group. Some of you sent me information about rescues that might accept Daphne. Here is where we are now. I have been in close contact with Cheri at Cats of Wildcat Woods. She and I have both been in touch with one of the rescues that accepts FIV-positive kitties. Unfortunately, these rescues feel obligated to take kitties from their own state first. That door has not been closed entirely, but there are a couple of reasons why we want to make this big push for a forever home for Daphne. The rescues that take in kitties are wonderful and amazing. But obviously, we’d all rather see ANY animal go to a REAL home rather than a rescue facility. There is no way to replace what an kitty’s individual family can provide to them - personal, night-and-day love. Second, Daphne is living in a cage here (well, right now she’s in the downstairs bathroom recovering from her spay). She will have to continue to live in a cage until she can be placed somewhere. The rescue has NOT accepted her at this point, and if they do - it could be weeks, or months, before she could go.
Now let me tell you a little bit about Daphne. There just HAS to be someone out there who is willing to open their home to this little sweetheart. You would be doing such a great service. But I’m here to tell you - you would be paid back triple or quadruple. I know you hear me say this a lot, but Daphne is absolutely precious!! She gives so much love it is nearly unbelievable. You know I’ve been honest about the various kitties here. I told the truth about Sparkles - that she just didn’t like other cats. But Kat at Teenage Mutant Ninja Kitty Horde adopted her anyway. I have explained that Spritz is going to be a cat that requires lots of patience because of how afraid she is of new experiences. I tell the truth. And the truth about Daphne is that she is a love bug. She’s been in our downstairs bathroom since her spay last Friday. She runs to whoever comes into the room. She rubs on our legs and peeps out her little mews. When I take the time to sit on the floor, she crawls in my lap and "pits" on my jeans. If I’m standing at the sink, busy brushing my teeth or brushing my hair, she lays her head on my foot. And if I bend down to pet her and talk to her for a minute, she reaches way up and gives me nose bump kisses. This precious, precious girl needs someone who can appreciate her love. She has so much to give.
Isn't there someone who would take this little jewel? Please let me know.
We have our paws crossed that someone will fall in love with this sweet girl. She sounds so much like our foster cat , Tulip. A little love bug who keeps loving despite the shortcomings life has provided her! You are in our thoughts Daphne :)

I can very much attest to a cat being a love bug if you say so. That was the way you described Jimmy and he is the MOST affectionate cat of my four boys: nose kisses every day, head butts, happy paws, following me around like a dog...he is a dreamboat and I'm sure Daphne is the same way!!! What a sweet and beautiful girl, I so hope she finds a safe and happy home :-)

Hi Chrystal! First, we are glad that the sun finally showed up for you! We hope it lasts!
And Daphne is so beautiful - and I am sure you are not exagerating - having met one, and adopted one of your kitties - well, I am always gushing about how sweet they are. It is wonderful that there are shelters that take FIV+ kitties, but we agree that it would just be so much better for her to find her a perfect forever home! We will keep all our fingers and paws crossed for that to happen very soon!

Here's hoping and purring and crossing all paws for little Daphne.
By the way, depending on the means available to whoever adopts her, (expensive) treatment with interferon can work absolute miracles with FIV-positive cats.
Purrs,

Oh is she a little beauty! Don't you just love when the fur colors split down the center of the face like that?? What a sweet little face she has to go with her personality!
I hope and pray someone comes forward to take her! She deserves a forever home with a lap to snuggle on!
I totally agree that you tell the truth about the kitties in your care, I can just picture the nose kisses of a kitty who wants a person of her own all day long! Someone out there needs a kitty who will love love love them. Whoever you are, contact Chrystal quick!

Daphne looks like she is wearing a thespian mask with one side black and one side yellow -She is a real pretty unusual looking cat. She could also be in a home with no cats or dogs just a loving person mother. Andrea has so much insight into kitties. I love to read all the comments - I have no blog so love to read all Chrystal's wonderful true stories and all the comments of loving animal people. Prayers for a home for Daphne. The sunshine was wonderful - more tomorrow - Warm wishes to all - Ginny & The Fur Family -
