There are lots of pairs of kitties here at Winnie’s Wish. I’ve been lucky enough to have some adopters over the years choose TWO at the same time. The Wishers I want to highlight today would definitely fall into the category of a pair. They are truly bonded.
You’ve met Slate. He came in with two brothers (Toast and Smokey) and one sister (Snowflake). This was a feral litter and all of the issues that go with ferals apply here. Toast was the sibling from this group who tamed first and he has been successfully adopted. Slate is quite shy. It takes a long time to gain his trust. He will be stressed by a change of environment if he is adopted, but he is a very sweet boy who deserves a home. He was adopted on a trial basis last Spring, but was returned. I’d love to see Slate get another chance. He wants me to pet him and pick him up and he leans into me and purrs. I think with enough time, and especially if he gets to go with his best friend, he will prove to be a joy in someone’s home. He will require a patient, loving family. I believe there are rewards to be had . . .
Slate’s best friend is being posted as “ready for adoption” for the very first time today. He, too, was one of a litter of feral kittens. Finnick came in with brother Peeta and sister Prim almost a year and a half ago. Peeta was the first to tame and is now in a home of his own. Prim is my number one Feral with a capital “F” at this point in time. I can’t even touch Prim without cornering her. Finnick was equally as “untouchable” as Prim for a long time. But several months ago, Finnick very suddenly decided that I was OK. He started coming to me when the others did. And literally, in a matter of days, he was crawling on me and rolling around at my feet and basically begging for attention. Of course, as I’ve said many many times, the behavior I see here is NOT what a new adopter will see AT FIRST. I feel certain Finnick will require quite an adjustment period in a new home. He will need, as Slate will, a patient and loving human. But again – I believe there are rewards to be had . . .
Let me quote from a comment that came in to this blog not long ago. “John Bellen” said this - There is a certain feeling that comes from having won a friend through patience and perseverance that doesn't come with the easier friendships. The bond is different. There is pride and delight and relief. If you get the chance to win a cat over, take it.
So true . . .
Keep your fingers crossed for Slate and Finnick.
Have a great weekend.
