I foster at least one of the shelter’s canines almost continuously. Of course, I think they’re all great. But there are always some that steal my heart. Blondie was one of them.
I foster the shelter’s dogs for various reasons. Sometimes they are recovering from a surgery or illness. Sometimes they need a less chaotic environment for a period of time. Sometimes they stay with me for a while to get a little extra attention with the hope that they will become a little more adoptable. That was the case with Blondie. There was an adoption event coming up and my daughters wanted to give Blondie a chance to go. She is not well socialized, and in the shelter environment she isn’t so great with other dogs. So we talked about her coming to me for a couple of weeks before the event. Sometimes just getting out of the shelter environment creates improvement. Also I would be able to watch more closely for a variety of behaviors, giving us a better idea of what to say to a potential adopter.
This silly girl was a treat. I did, in fact, learn what to say to anyone who might ask about her. She LOVES attention. She speaks with her eyes and her whole body wiggles sometimes (like my amazing Waggles used to do). She would lean into me all the time and it felt just like a hug.
She did NOT get adopted during that adoption event. I was there and she didn’t even get asked about. She watched people walk up and kept her eyes on their eyes over and over. She begged for attention with those eyes. My daughters tell me that she isn’t good with all other dogs. But I sure do wish someone out there with just the right conditions would take this girl into his or her home (and heart).
She took the strangest pictures. She is not a “thick” dog by any means, but in these pictures she looks like a pencil or something. Wish you could see her in person. Anyway, here she is when she was at my kennel – SO cute!!
Maybe someone reading this today will consider giving Blondie a home.
See you tomorrow.
