For my Valentine's Day post in 2013 (click here), I announced that two Winnie's Wishers had been CHOSEN for a home. It was THE perfect day to announce because these two kitties had the perfect names (and personalities) to be the featured furries for the Valentine holiday. Who had been chosen? Hershey and Frosting. It took a very long time, lots of patience, and lots of ups and downs, but we did it – we FINALLY got Hershey and Frosting (now Felicity) all the way to their new home in California. During my final brick fundraiser, the adoptive parents of Hershey and Felicity bought a brick for the Winnie's Wish Walkway. That story will end the week here as nothing could be more fitting.
"Love Found a Way"
Just over a year ago, a plan was set in motion to bring two beautiful kitties on a long trip home. We had been watching these two cats for some time on Chrystal's blog, but assumed that it would not be possible to transport them so far. And they were so cute, how could they not get adopted by people who lived closer? We were swept up by their life stories and by their photographs, but still did not think that adopting these cats would be possible. But the more we read about them, about their struggles, and about their personalities, the more we really knew that these were our heart cats. Although we looked for cats in our local area, we kept returning to Winnie's Wish. Then, at the end of 2012, we made a decision to get serious about choosing Frosting and Hershey. Communicating with Chrystal was a joy. We knew we had found a kindred spirit who poured love and care into all her animals. Everything seemed to fall into place… now it was only a matter of getting Frosting and Hershey home. Those who followed the saga already know that it was complicated and repeatedly disappointing. Barrier after barrier popped up to stop every plan that arose. Could love really find a way through all this frustration and discouragement? When all hope seemed lost, and it really looked like maybe this adoption wasn't meant to be, a plan did come together. This plan involved many kind, gracious, generous people who knew Frosting and Hershey needed to come home. In the end, this transport covered many states and included an all night cross country drive, several meet ups, and the help and prayers of more people than we'll ever know or be able to thank. Love did find a way, indeed! Our love alone wasn't enough. We learned that it took the love of a very special community to carry these kitties safely home. And now, they've been home for 10 wonderful months, and we can't imagine our lives without them. Felicity Frosting and Hershey Bear have brought such sweetness, joy, and love into our home! They both are so loved, and we are so blessed to be loved by them in return. They truly are our heart kitties. For anyone reading who is contemplating a long distance adoption from Winnie's Wish, our advice is to do it! Don't be afraid of the distance or of what ifs -- love will find a way!
I sure hope this story inspires someone out there - no matter how far away - to adopt a Winnie's Wish kitty (or two)!
Mary and Husband – THANK YOU.
Have wonderful Valentine's Day. See you next week.
