Last week I highlighted the Winnie’s Wish calicos. No homes yet, but do please keep them circulating. This week I am going to highlight the black cats and black-&-whites that call themselves Winnie’s Wishers. And what a wonderful group they are! In fact, I spent a VERY long afternoon in the cathouse on Saturday. I already knew the black and the black-&-white kitties were a sweet group. But after spending so long with them this weekend, I am extremely anxious to find some great homes. These guys are wonderful, and for the most part, they don’t have the types of “issues” that some of my calicos seem to have.
The calicos of last week numbered five. This week’s group numbers five as well. Didn’t I always say “Five is a Fabulous Number?” There are three black cats, one black-&-white, and one tuxedo. Here are the names of this week’s Fab Five: Maverick, Truly, Shiloh, Hershey Bear, and Victor. Do you know these cats? Yep, there's a newbie in the group! (That story later this week.)
Today’s featured kitty is Maverick. His biological brother Mickey Mouse was adopted a couple of weeks ago, and he adjusted almost immediately to his new home. Judging from Maverick’s personality, he will be very much like his brother. Maverick is looking for just about any kind of home. He seems to like ALL cats. He likes ALL people. He likes to play with toys. He likes to interact with me. He likes to play with the other cats. He likes attention and purrs loudly when he gets it. This is a great little guy. I want to go on and on about him, but what I’ve said really sums it up. I know anything can happen in a new home, but Maverick doesn’t seem to have any issues. He’s just a great little black cat looking for a wonderful forever home.
You all know that black cats are the hardest to place. I don't understand it. Judging from the three currently in the cathouse, they are some of the greatest cats ever. I KNOW you would get agreement from three wonderful people who have each adopted a black cat from me - my sister (who adopted Handsome - now Boris), Kat (who adopted Sparkles - now Lady Audrey), and Cat (who adopted Bagheera - now Kip).
There's nothing more to say, so let me bombard you with pictures of Maverick.
Friends - Will you help me spread the word? Maverick needs a wonderful forever home.

I don't understand about black cats not being wanted, either. The only reason I didn't adopt one - and one was under consideration when I was first looking for a cat - was that several friends of mine had black cats. I figured it was time to give other colours a break!

Maverick reminds me of my heart-cat Mo (aka Mo-Mees)...yes, he had many nicknames. I just know someone out there will see this post today and say, "I gotta get that Maverick. What a cutie pie!" As I said before, if I had all the money in the world and multiple clones of myself and plenty of house space, quite a few of these kitties would have homes with me...but alas, I am one person with 10 babies (5 pugs, 5 kitties (3 of which are Winnie's Wishers...very proud of them) and I have no more of myself to give at this point in time without short-changing someone.
Black cats are wonderful...I have Socks Lucyfur (tuxedo like with white paws) and three Angel kitties (2 of which were heart cats)...Smokey Joe, Mo, and Bo.
Please consider giving these black cats a home.
Much Love,
Mindy :)

Black cats rule- I have Spot Dot - LP or lap cat alis Ebony Salem - Ha'Penny - Chi - and a crippled Tuxedo called Chance.. Enough already in this small home-- Mavrick is a sure sweetie and will make a great pet for some lucky person and or persons... Come on out there and give it a go and adopt Mavrick or any other winnie wishers - They all need good loving homes and will give you years of love in return. They give us far more than we give them - donate and adopt. Both- help out the lost and homeless. They are all in a wonderful place right now, but do not have persons of their own .. That is what they need- their own family forever... have a good day all. Ginny & The Fur Family

I've always wondered why people don't want a black cat. I think they are beautiful! Right before Sweet Praline died, I saw a beautiful, long haired black cat at PetSmart with the rescues. If Sweet Praline hadn't been so old and sick, I'd brought that little guy home with me.

What a gorgeous guy! And look, he's got a locket of white on his chest! What a playful sweet looking kitty he is! I can't wait for him to get a forever home! Won't you share this and spread the word everywhere??
There really is a lot we can do! Ok, so you don't have room in your house, you can tell everyone you know, pick out a kitty that you think would be perfect for them, tell them about the kitty! Bug them, lol! Get them to at least look! Even if they don't take the one you picked out, perhaps they will see their heart kitty elsewhere in the Winnie's Wish list! We just need them to look!
Then, look around, are you sure you don't have room for one yourself? ;)
Please, don't forget about donations! Adoptions! Spreading the word! (Toy sets still available!) What else... oh yes! ADOPTIONS!

My first two adopted cats, both adults, were tuxedos. Had a black panther named Ebony and now have two youngsters, boy, with white bib and white on tummy, sister with small white necklace under her chin. They were abandoned at a few days old, a vet doctor, bottle fed them for 4 weeks. She had to go out of town to a conference and I took them, ONLY until they were vetted completely, spayed and neutered. Then when it was time to send them back to the rescue it was October. I was not going to let them be adopted around Halloween ( yes I'm one of those people) and by then they were so bonded I wanted them to be adopted together. Soooo I adopted them. Black cats, to me, are some of the most outgoing and affectionate cats in the world. Both of these get into my lap put their legs around my neck and give me little kisses all over my face! You don't know what you have missed if you've never been owned by a black house panther!
Also, I'm curious as to how you do backgrounds on people who want to adopt that you don't know. I know a lot of the folks who HAVE adopted you know from the blogosphere but how do you go about checking out someone who comes out of the blue and wants to adopt one of your babies? I'm curious because I'm going to start helping a new shelter with an internet presence and the director asked me how to go about that. I know you can ask for vet references but if they're in another state and have never had a pet before???? You know what I mean?
