Before my own dogs take the page, I want to share a heart-warming story. Younger Daughter has done something wonderful this holiday season. (I have two great daughters - have I ever mentioned that? smile) There is this dog at the no-kill shelter where Older Daughter works. His name is Shorty. He is either nine years old or eleven years old. The records aren’t clear. We believe he may have lived his entire life at the shelter. He went into a foster home many months ago where unfortunately he was overfed to the extreme. The person fostering him suddenly could no longer do it, so Older Daughter and another worker went to pick him up and bring him back to the shelter. He was dramatically overweight. An exam by the shelter vet identified an enlarged heart. He was put in a tiny little indoor pen where he cowered and shook out of fear. After Older Daughter told his story, Younger Daughter went to meet him. After several weeks of “visiting” Shorty and taking him on some walks for exercise (he desperately needs exercise), Younger Daughter made a decision to permanently foster Shorty. He absolutely adores Younger Daughter and has stopped cowering and shaking. He will get exercise and meds twice daily now. Yesterday, I went to Younger Daughter’s place and we brought Shorty out into her fenced-in yard for a bit of exercise and some pictures.
I have a permanent foster dog myself. Gandy has many health problems (including lung cancer), but he has been especially playful and bouncy lately. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to see him happy. He even jumped straight up off his feet and bonked Husband in the forehead the other day. Husband didn’t mind - he was glad to see Gandy so energetic.
We have ten dogs of our own (all rescues, of course). Here they are to wish you the best of the season.
See you tomorrow for Season’s Greetings from the cats.

Oh what a sad story BUT with such an uplifting end. How tragic it would be if Shorty had spent his whole life in the shelter and never known a home. I can't thank your daughter enough for helping him. Hopefully with exercise he will lose some weight ~ and with love and caring will enjoy the remained of his life. A Christmas Miracle ~ thank you for sharing.

Bless you and your family for everything you do for so many animals! I'm so happy that Shorty is with your younger daughter now. Surely he knows love now, and that is a beautiful thing.
Hugs and scritches to Gandy and all your other woofies. Thank you for rescuing them, and for loving them all so much.

What a blessing your daughters are! I'm so glad they inherited your heart as big as all outdoors! Hugs to you ALL!!! So glad Shorty is doing so well now!
So glad Gandy is doing so well!!
Happy Christmas to your happy doggies!
Know what will make an even better Christmas? A new kitty in your home! A Winnie's Wisher getting a forever home would make a wonderful Christmas gift! Can you imagine the celebration on top of the four that already found homes, if the rest did too??? We'd make the earth shake with all the dancing! So please, as Kat has said many times before, lets Clear Chrystal's Cathouse by Christmas!! We can do it if we try! Share, tweet, tell everyone you know! email the link to everyone!
Don't forget donations! Cat's don't stop eating and using litter because it's a holiday!
Chrystal's book is still available! And it's fantastic! Make it your new years resolution to get it and read it, and give a copy as a gift to at least one person!
Adoptions! The rest of these kitties deserve homes too!

I love the story of Shorty and Gandy. Love does wonders for a pet. Both now have loving homes. The pictures of all your rescue dogs make me so happy. I love the way they all are now safe and loved. Younger daughter is a blessing to the furries. Poor Shorty and Gandy both were destined to live the rest of their lives in shelters until the Parker family opened their hearts to them and gave them homes. If anyone out there wants to help a furrie - donate to the cause - cause they need food and litter and even cleaning supplies cost money. Andrea says what I think - I agree with all the blogers that this story makes our day happy - What a sweet thing for younger daughter to do. Cold weather will soon be here and it is hard to keep every thing going in cold weather. Warm throws or toys can give a dog or cat comfort during the cold weather - Ginny & The Fur Family
